Serial Fiber Optics

Fiber Optic Modems

The reliable choice for minimum communications downtime

Fiber optic cable carries serial data reliably up to 4 kilometers. Fiber optic data transmission uses light in glass fiber cable as a communication medium. It is ideal for spanning areas with severe interference, such as near heavy electrical equipment, welding or radio transmissions.

Fiber optic cables do not transmit power spikes or surges, providing the most reliable system possible. Ground loops interfere with data communications through copper. Using fiber optics eliminates ground loops by not providing a conductive path for the ground.

232FLST

9PFLST

Features

  • Port powered, no external power required
  • Transparently communicate RS-232 at 115.2 Kbps
  • Fiber is immune to surges, spikes, ground loops
  • Range up to 2.5 miles (4 km)
  • TD, RD, RTS and CTS supported

Transmit RS-232 data at 115.2 Kbps 4 km (2.5 miles) with port-powered fiber optic converters. Models 232FLST and 9PFLST allow RS-232 serial devices to communicate transparently over longer distances and with greater reliability. These models support TD, RD, RTS and CTS and provide the inherent immunity of fiber to data line surges, spikes and ground loops. Model 232FLST has a DB25 female serial connector; 9PFLST a DB9 female. Both units have ST fiber connectors. These models draw power from the serial port in most applications.
